Strachan has been retained by World Snooker Ltd in a new long-term contract as its cloth supplier for the World Championship and all ranking tournaments worldwide.
Strachan is manufactured by WSP Textiles Ltd, which recently acquired the woollen speciality products business from Milliken. Its flagship cloth, Strachan Championship No 10, has featured at the World Championship for over thirty years.
New owners Vespa Capital are in the process of investing in new manufacturing equipment at the company’s locations in Cam & Stroud, Gloucestershire, confident that demand for Strachan will grow in South America, Asia, and China in particular.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said the game needed the highest-quality products to help it expand.
He said: “We are delighted to agree a new long term contract with Strachan, making this one of our longest partnerships. Strachan cloth offers us the speed; consistency and control that modern players need to perform at the very highest level“.
“The playing conditions we provide at our tournaments are the best in the world and that is a key factor in the rising standard of play.”
Strachan sales director Duncan Kettell added: “Cloth is a critical component of the game. As a natural product, great expertise is needed to provide the characteristics demanded by top players and tournament organisers“.
“We are delighted this has again been acknowledged in what are very exciting times for snooker, with players responding to a host of new tournaments and formats being brought forward by World Snooker“.
“This is already starting to create opportunities for us as we look to new markets around the world where tournament organisers are keen to be part of the success story that is Strachan snooker and pool cloth“.
“As a newly-independent company, WSP Textiles offers speedy decision-making and an investment programme that will ensure we continue to offer the industry the best in product quality, choice and service,” added Kettell.
