This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the creation of Snooker. Strachan Cloth and Aramith Balls have been the Reference suppliers to virtually all major amateur and professional snooker events, clubs and sports organisations in the world.
To recognize the long History of this sport and its development everywhere around the world, we interviewed Jason Ferguson, Director of the World Snooker Tour and Chairman at the WPBSA, the world governing body for snooker and billiards.
This first of 6 episodes tackles the importance of Snooker and the ever-increasing size of the World Snooker Tour.
The development of Snooker
“Snooker is played regularly in about a hundred countries. And when I say regularly, I mean that there is some kind of structure, like a national championship or a structure where there is a tour of events. Outside of that, of course, recreationally, it must be played just about everywhere.”
The World Snooker Tour
“Just in the last 15 years, this tour has gone from 6 or 8 events, 3.5 million pounds in prize money to professional players, to over 20 events in a season televised all over the world, players traveling all over the world, events in those territories. And it’s great to see how the sport is being globalized.”
The key success factor in Snooker
“The level of precision required in this sport, both from the players themselves and the equipment, is really just quite incredible. Every player knows that any shot can be missed at any time. So having the very best products and having the very best suppliers to work alongside and our partners is absolutely a paramount importance to this sport.”
