Strachan is the World’s leading manufacturer of Snooker, English and Chinese pool cloths. This is why this English brand is the official and exclusive cloth supplier to virtually all major amateur and professional tournaments around the world.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the creation of snooker, we interviewed Jason Ferguson, Director of the World Snooker Tour and Chairman at the WPBSA, the world governing body for snooker and billiards.
This fourth of 6 episodes tackles how Strachan cloth quality stands out from any other cloth manufacturer.
An ancestral manufacturing heritage
“Strachan mills go back to the 13th century. So a very long history has evolved over the creation of some of these products. And it does show in the end result, the level of perfection is really quite incredible. I think really it’s been perfected over so many years. It has reached the level that is providing optimum performance for our players. The product itself is very difficult to produce and it’s difficult to produce in this consistent manner.”
Fine human craftsmanship
“Snooker is a real technical skill that requires huge amounts of hard work, dedication and discipline. The manufacture of these products is the same. Their game is also the same. It is about perfection. It’s about raising those standards and not having those little intricacies along the way that can affect performance. So Strachan are the best. That’s why they’re here on the World Snooker Tour.”
