What’s Going On?
The World Snooker Tour is encountering a record-breaking number of 147 breaks this season. 22 so far and already 7 more than the entire 2024-25 season, which had previously set a new record.
This is setting up everyone on fire: the players, the commentators, the fans, the media. Snooker is currently moving to a new era where winning isn’t enough anymore. Players want to become Legends of their sport.
The Perfect Playing Surface
Crafted in England since 1890, Strachan Cloths have shaped the rules and way of playing Snooker. With a breakthrough manufacturing technique known as “the Nap”, it gives a permanent directional finish on the surface of the Strachan Cloths.
Strachan Cloths are a crucial technical element of the game. When the ball is played down the table, during the break for instance, the ball follows the direction of the Nap, with less friction. When the ball is played up the table, it goes against the Nap which creates friction and slows it down. And for diagonal shots, the Nap will cause the ball to drift.
The excellence and consistency in terms of quality and performance of the Strachan cloths enable players to control exactly the ball spin, speed and positioning at every single stops of the World Snooker Tour.
Defined the Game. Raising the Standards ever Since.
Strachan and Aramith have been the official cloth and ball suppliers to the World Snooker Tour since 1980. In the last 46 years, our organisations have worked closely together to bring the best equipment to the players for them to keep reaching new heights.
Aramith are the only 100% high-density phenolic resin balls in the world. This ensures uniform density and weight distribution throughout the ball for a perfect roll and optimal rebound.
The level of perfection achieved with both the cloth and balls now enable any Top players to potentially reach this 147 maximum break.
In 1982 was the first-ever 147 break completed by Steve Davis, already on a Strachan Cloth with Aramith Balls. Since then, 239 official perfect breaks in professional snooker history have been recorded and their number is growing significantly.
