Snooker and pool cloth manufacturer, WSP Textiles, reaches a significant milestone at this year’s World Snooker Championship in Sheffield with its famous Strachan Championship No 10 cloth featuring as the playing surface for the 40th year in succession.
The most famous snooker tournament on the season’s calendar, the World Championships, marks the 40th consecutive occasion that the Strachan brand has featured on its tables.
Since the early 1980’s the Strachan brand has become the cloth of choice of most of snookers professional and amateur governing bodies around the globe and has gained an unrivalled reputation for quality.
Sheffield’s iconic Crucible theatre has staged many memorable matches since 1980 and has produced 17 World Champions, with Stephen Hendry winning more than any other players lifting the famous trophy a record 7 times.
UK & Ireland Sales Manager for Strachan cloth, Stuart Gardiner, said: “We work closely with the technical team at World Snooker to ensure that conditions are as near to perfect as possible. Over the 40 years the speed has increased along with the number of century breaks. Back in the 80’s the World Championships were averaging less than 15 centuries per tournament, today the average is over 73!”
Gardiner added: “We have also developed Anti-Kick technology which has reduced the occurrence of kicks by over 90%. These players are the elite and they deserve the very best conditions to perform at the highest level. We provide this with the Strachan cloth and Aramith balls.”
