Shanghai, China saw a surge of snooker activity in September which proved to be nothing other than sensational. The city hosted its 5thShanghai Masters Snooker Championship and the 5thChina Billiards Expo 2012 while the 2ndevent of the Asian Player Tour Championship was held in the outskirt satellite city of YiXing within a space of 10 days.
The Strachan cloth, used on all World Snooker ranking events since 1980 was again the chosen playing surface at these two championships. At the Shanghai Masters Finals, John Higgins scored a maximum 147 in the sixth frame in his sensational comeback 10-9 win over Judd Trump after trailing 0-5 at the half way point.
“It was a fantastic match and we are once again very proud our premium quality Strachan snooker cloth was able to provide world class professional snooker players the opportunity to showcase the very best of their skill and talent.” said E J Goh, Asia marketing manager for the Strachan cloth brand manufactured in the UK by WSP Textiles Ltd.
Concurrently the 5thChina Billiards Expo 2012, held a short walk away from the Shanghai Masters Championship venue, saw key players from the billiard industry coming together to showcase their products which attracted close to 8,000 visitors.
EJ Goh reports that the overall billiard industry in China remains healthy and buyers are becoming more quality conscious. “We understand this and the WSP team remain committed to excellence and providing the China consumer with premium quality Strachan snooker cloth.”
